How to Know What Foods to Eat

One of the best ways to know which foods increase your blood-sugar levels is the glycemic index (www.glycemicindex.com). This index lists foods according to how they affect your blood-sugar levels. The higher the number, the more it increases your blood sugar. The lower the food is on the index, the less it affects your blood sugar.
So the general rule with cancer is this — avoid sugar — and all the foods listed high on the glycemic index — as much as possible. Instead, focus on low-glycemic vegetables, as well as meats, fish, and poultry.
Eat All the Good Fats You Want
Some health gurus say you should limit the amount of fat you consume. I don’t place any restriction on the amount of healthy fats you should eat. But notice I said “healthy fats.”
Healthy fats include monounsaturated fats, such as olive oil and coconut oil. They also include animal fats, as long as the animals are not fed grain. This includes fish, lamb, free-range chicken, grass-fed cows, and eggs that come from free-range chickens.

So how to burn fat instead of glucose??

The Best Way to Protect Yourself

The best way to get your body to burn fat instead of glucose is to avoid any foods that significantly increase the amount of sugar in your bloodstream. That means staying away from sugars, starches, and other refined carbs.

You see, your body can store only a limited amount of glucose (the sugar that all carbohydrates ultimately break down into) for energy. So when you stop supplying the body with additional glucose (in the form of sugars and other refined carbs), the body has no choice but to start burning fat for energy. And voilĂ  — you’ve shifted from a glucose-burning metabolism to a fat-burning metabolism!

The Only Cancer-Prevention Advice You’ll Ever Need — Part 2

In last month’s issue, I told you that cancer cells live on glucose (sugar). Every time you eat sugar and carbohydrates, it will shift your metabolism away from burning fat so it can burn the carbohydrate calories you just ate. Eating too many high-glycemic carbs on a daily basis is one way to make sure that your body will eventually make this shift permanent.

When your body shifts to a glucose-burning metabolism, it gives cancer an almost endless supply of food. So the key to preventing cancer is to stop that shift from a fat-burning metabolism to a glucose-burning metabolism.

Fortunately, it’s possible to shift your body back to a fat-burning metabolism. So even if you already have cancer, it’s possible to create a much healthier environment to fight it. In fact, the Shultz study I told you about last month proved this. When the researchers took mice with cancer and shifted their metabolism from a glucose-burning metabolism into a fat-burning metabolism, it actually changed the behavior of the cancer cells! The cells became less malignant and they stopped spreading.

As amazing as this is, it is totally in line with other research that’s been done on cancer and glucose. For example, it’s well documented that people with diabetes have a much higher incidence of cancer.

It’s also well-documented that people with high blood sugar have a higher incidence of cancer.

And there’s even evidence that eating a diet high in carbohydrates can help promote cancer. Researchers proved this several years ago in a study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

In this study, the researchers exposed rats to a breast-cancer-causing agent. Then they fed one group of rats a high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet and another group a low-fat, high-carb diet. Result: 43% of the rats on the low-fat, high-carb diet developed cancer. But only 7% of the rats on the high-fat diet did — and this is despite the fact that the researchers exposed them to a powerful cancer-causing agent.

This is further proof that if you want to prevent cancer, keep your body from shifting to a glucose-burning metabolism. And if you already have cancer, for the best possible results, make sure that your cells are primarily burning fat instead of glucose.

But how do you do it?

The Only Cancer-Prevention Advice You’ll Ever Need by Dr Frank Shallenberger.

I’m sure you’ve heard the common advice on how to prevent cancer:

Take antioxidants. Eat lots of cruciferous vegetables. Eat lots of tomato products. Don’t use pesticides. Stay away from toxic cleansers and solvents. Avoid the carcinogens found in cosmetics, and nail polish, and hair dyes. Drink distilled water. Filter the air in your home. Never microwave anything in plastic. Eat organic foods. Drink green tea. Take resveratrol. Take melatonin. Take selenium. Take vitamin D. Take lycopene. Boost your immune system with astragalus and medicinal mushrooms. Take indole-3-carbinol or DIM. Take calcium d-glucarate. Reduce the amount of stress in your life. Meditate. Get psychotherapy to help you get rid of toxic emotions like guilt and anger.

Does your head hurt yet?

The fact of the matter is that while all the advice above has its value, there’s no way on earth anybody is going to be able to follow it all.

So how do you know which cancer prevention steps are the most important, and which ones you can afford to ignore? In this report, I’m going to answer that for you.

In fact, I’m going to give you one simple rule for living a cancer-free life.
That’s right. One simple rule will practically guarantee you will never get cancer!
How can I make such a bold statement? Simple. Every chain is only as strong as its weakest link. And when you find cancer’s weakest link, you can stop the cancer.

We’ve found that weak link. And by attacking that link, we can stop cancer before it has a chance to grow.

The Cancer Chain

Before I tell you what the weakest link is, you need to know all the links in the chain. Cancer goes through four phases:

Phase #1: The initiation phase. In this phase the cancer cell is formed. This happens when the nuclear DNA of a normal cell is damaged and the cell mutates or changes.

Millions of cells in your body do this every day. Fortunately, nothing happens with most of them. They either mutate so severely that they die instantly or your immune system sees them and wipes them out. Some of the cells, though, are strong enough to survive and grow. These are the ones that turn into tumors if left unchecked. In order for them to grow, they must have the right fuel. If it gets this fuel, the cancer enters phase #2.

Phase #2: The promotion phase. In this phase, cancer grows into a tumor that’s big enough to detect, but probably hasn’t started to cause severe problems. At this point, the cancer is very dangerous. It has enough strength to grow and cause serious problems. Most supplements recommended for cancers at this stage inhibit the growth of cancer cells.

Phase #3: The clinical phase. This is the stage where cancer is diagnosed. The cancer has really begun to grow and has created its own blood supply. It also creates a mucus coating around it that protects it from the immune system (a major reason why boosting your immune system often isn’t enough to fight cancer).

Phase #4: The cancer spreads. The final phase is when the cancer changes from a local tumor to an invasive tumor. Inflammation causes new blood vessels to form and cancer to spread through those blood vessels to other areas.

A few years ago, the “hot” topic in cancer was anti-angiogenesis. This means stopping these new blood vessels from forming and thus stopping the spread of cancer. Anti-angiogenesis drugs like Fragmin and anti-angiogenesis supplements like soy isoflavones stop cancer from spreading. Shark cartilage was also being touted as an anti-angiogenesis agent (remember the “sharks don’t get cancer” ads?), but that never panned out.

Anti-angiogenesis agents can be only so effective. The reason is because they’re looking at cancer after the fact. Once the cancer has formed, it’s tough to fight.
You want to stop cancer from ever getting to that stage. Once cancer begins to grow, the chain is much, much more difficult to break. So we have to attack it early — between initiation and promotion. This is where it’s most vulnerable.

The Best Way to Fight Cancer

Remember earlier how I said that the cancer needs fuel to grow? Well, the way to prevent cancer is to take away its fuel. Without fuel, it simply cannot survive.
What is cancer’s fuel? About 70 years ago, a Nobel Prize-winning scientist named Otto Warburg, MD, PhD discovered exactly what feeds cancer.

As you may know, the cells in your body use one of two types of fuel. They burn either glucose (sugar) or fat.

But Warburg showed that cancer cells live almost entirely on glucose. They can’t convert fat in an efficient manner. Warburg proved this by showing that cancer cells create a tremendous amount of a byproduct called lactic acid. We’ve known for a long time that lactic acid isn’t produced when a cell burns fat; it’s only produced when a cell burns glucose. Therefore, he proved that cancer cells burn only glucose.

This finding was so ground-breaking that it won Warburg the Nobel Prize in medicine.

Recently, a scientist named Schultz performed new research that demonstrated that Warburg was right on target. He took colon cancer cells and altered them in such a way that they produce energy better from fat. (He did this by causing the cancer cells to increase their production of a substance called Frataxin. Frataxin causes cells to burn fat more efficiently.)

Schultz found that all the cancer cells that had this treatment showed decreased growth rates and inhibited colony formation capacity. In other words, they couldn’t spread.

What’s more, he then took these cells and injected them into mice. He divided the mice into two groups. The control group had regular cancer cells injected into them. The other group had Frataxin-treated cancer cells injected into them. In the control group, the cancer cells grew rapidly as expected. But in the experimental group, the growth of the cells was markedly inhibited.

This experiment went a step further than Warburg. Warburg said all cancer cells live off glucose. This experiment asked, “What if they start burning fat? Will they behave differently?” And according to this study, the answer is “yes.” Improving fat metabolism actually inhibits the growth of cancer.

So how do you prevent cancer? The answer is simple. You have to change how your body produces energy. You have to shift your body’s metabolism so that it goes from primarily burning glucose to primarily burning fat.

Next month, I’ll show you how to make the shift to a fat-burning metabolism. You’ll be surprised at how fast and easy it is. And I’ll even show you a way to jumpstart your metabolism so the shift happens even quicker.
